Set up an IPTV player on Android TV in 5 steps
From a fresh install to your first channel, without typing long addresses on the remote. This guide uses the IPTV player Lounjy.
Lounjy does not provide any content
Lounjy is only a player. It comes with no channels, films, series or playlists. You use your own IPTV service. Only use a service that holds the rights to what it streams.
1. What you need
- A TV or set-top box running Android TV or Google TV. No Google Play on your device? You can install Lounjy separately, as described in step 2.
- The login details from your IPTV service. These come in one of two forms:
- Xtream Codes login (a common way to sign in): a server address, a username and a password. The server address looks something like
http://service.example:8080. - M3U: a link to your channel list, for example
http://service.example:8080/playlist.m3u.
- Xtream Codes login (a common way to sign in): a server address, a username and a password. The server address looks something like
- A phone on the same home network as your TV. The TV can also use a cable. You use it to enter your details, which is much easier than typing with a remote.
2. Install
Lounjy is coming to Google Play soon
You can’t install Lounjy on your TV yet. Check the download page to see when you can.
Once Lounjy is on Google Play, it works like this:
- Open Google Play on your TV and search for Lounjy.
- Choose Install. Lounjy then appears on your TV’s home screen.
No Google Play on your TV? You’ll be able to install Lounjy separately with the Downloader app from your TV’s app store. You first allow Downloader to install apps. This is usually under Settings → Apps (or Device Preferences) → Security & restrictions → Unknown sources. Many TVs also ask for it the first time. The code you enter in Downloader will be on the download page as soon as Lounjy can be downloaded.
3. Add your playlist with your phone
Open Lounjy and choose Add playlist on the welcome screen. You could fill in your details here with the remote, but your phone is quicker.
- Choose With your phone. The Set up with your phone window shows a QR code, an address and a six-digit pairing code.
- Make sure your phone is on the same home network as your TV. The TV can also use a cable.
- Scan the QR code with your phone’s camera, or type the address shown below it into your phone’s browser.
- On your phone, pick Xtream Codes or M3U link and enter your details. After scanning, the pairing code is already filled in. Tap Send.
- Lounjy on your TV picks up the details and starts loading, showing its progress as it goes. When it’s done, you get a summary with the number of channels and groups. Choose Go to Live TV.
Your details go straight from your phone to your TV, inside your own network. They don’t travel over the internet or through us. The page on your phone only works from your home network. The pairing expires after ten minutes, or after too many wrong codes; choose New code to start again. Lounjy stores your password encrypted on the TV.
The first load can take a while if your service has thousands of channels and films. After that, Lounjy keeps your channels and guide up to date by itself when Automatic updates is on. It never does this while you’re watching.
4. Link the TV guide
With Xtream, Lounjy fetches the TV guide automatically. With M3U, it does so when your playlist contains a guide link. Without one, Lounjy tells you the playlist has no TV guide. In that case, ask your service for a playlist that includes a guide, or use Xtream if your service offers it. TV guide empty has more fixes.
Some channels without listings, or times that are off? Here’s how to fix that:
- Go to Settings. Under Playlists, your playlist has a TV guide row showing how many channels have a guide.
- Choose Link. The number in brackets is how many channels have no guide yet. The Link TV guide window opens.
- For each channel, Lounjy suggests a guide channel and shows how sure it is. Choose Link all confident suggestions, or link a single channel with Link TV guide. If a suggestion is wrong, choose Search and find the right guide channel yourself.
- Times running early or late? Shift them under Guide times with 30 min earlier or 30 min later.
- Choose Apply and close. Lounjy then downloads the guide again.
To refresh the guide straight away, choose Update guide in the TV guide row.
5. Using the remote
Everything in Lounjy works with the arrow keys, OK and Back. During live TV you use the arrow keys to move through your channel list.
| Button | What it does |
|---|---|
| OK | Select; while watching, show the controls, including P−/P+, Channels, Previous: [channel] (back to the channel you watched before) and Picture and sound for audio and subtitles |
| ↑ or CH+ | While watching: the channel above in the list |
| ↓ or CH− | While watching: the channel below in the list |
| ← | While watching: open the channel list |
| 0–9 | Go to a channel number |
| ▶❚❚ | Pause and resume |
| Back | Close a panel or go back one step. On Home, press Back twice to close the app; Lounjy tells you first. |
If your remote has coloured buttons, they work as shortcuts. On Live TV: red Favourite, green Recent, yellow Edit and blue Search. The bar at the bottom of the screen shows what they do.
A channel won’t play, or the picture stutters? Open Status and diagnostics in Settings, under About. It shows whether your subscription is active, and Measure tells you whether stuttering comes from your own internet or from your service. On a TV, a network cable often works better than Wi-Fi.
