TV guide empty or wrong? Here's how to fix it
No programmes, channels without a guide, or everything an hour out? When the EPG (TV guide) isn't working, it usually comes down to one of five causes. This guide walks you through each one.
Lounjy does not provide any content. The app has no channels, films, series, playlists or TV guides. You use your own service. Only use a service that holds the rights to what it streams. The TV guide comes from that service too.
First: see what Lounjy tells you
Open Settings. Under Playlists, each playlist has a TV guide row. It shows how many channels have a guide, for example “812 of 950 channels with guide”, and when the guide was last updated. If something went wrong, the row says what happened.
You'll find the same information in Settings → About → Status and diagnostics. That message usually points you to the right step below.
Check the guide link
Does it say “This playlist has no TV guide.”? Then Lounjy has no address to download the guide from.
- Xtream Codes: Lounjy downloads the guide from your service by itself. There's nothing to fill in.
- M3U: the guide link (XMLTV) has to be inside the playlist, on the first line. It looks like this:
#EXTM3U url-tvg="http://service.example/guide.xml". After loading, the summary shows under TV guide whether Lounjy found a guide link.
No guide link in your playlist? Ask your service whether it offers a TV guide. Then:
- Your service adds the guide link to your existing link: choose Update next to your playlist. Lounjy reads the same link again and picks up the guide link.
- You get a new link: add it with Add playlist. Update always uses the link the playlist already has. Note that your own layout and your links belong to the old playlist. They don't move to the new one.
- You loaded the playlist from a file: load the new file from your service.
Lounjy can't take a separate XMLTV link.
Seeing something like “The provider refuses the TV guide (error 403)”? Your service isn't releasing the guide for your account. Check that your subscription is still active.
Link channels to the guide
A few channels show “No TV guide for this channel”? Then that channel in your playlist isn't matched to any channel in the guide. Lounjy matches on the channel's code (tvg-id) first and then on its name. With messy channel names, that sometimes goes wrong.
- Go to Settings and find the TV guide row under your playlist.
- Choose Link TV guide. If some channels have no guide, the button shows how many, as in Link (12). The Link TV guide window opens.
- Each channel without a guide gets a suggestion with how sure Lounjy is, for example “Suggestion: Channel 1 · 92% sure”. If it's right, choose Link TV guide next to it.
- No suggestion, or the wrong one? Choose Search and find the right channel in the guide yourself.
- Lots of channels? Choose Link all confident suggestions. Lounjy only links the ones it's sure about.
- Choose Apply now or Apply and close. Lounjy downloads the guide again with the new links.
Linked a channel yourself by mistake? Choose Remove link next to it. Links you make yourself stay in place when you update the playlist, and they're included in a backup.
A channel shows programmes from a different channel, and you didn't link it yourself? Then Lounjy matched it to the wrong guide channel automatically. That channel already has a guide, so it doesn't appear in the Link TV guide window. You can't change that match yourself at the moment. Ask your service to fix the channel's tvg-id in the playlist.
The Link TV guide button only appears once the guide has been downloaded. Don't see it? Choose Update guide first.
Fix the times
Right programmes, but they always start an hour early or late? Then your service's guide uses a different time zone. Here's how to correct it:
- Open the Link TV guide window from the TV guide row.
- Next to Guide times, choose 30 min earlier or 30 min later until the times are right. For a full hour, press it twice.
- Choose Apply now. Lounjy downloads the guide again with the new times.
The shift applies to the whole playlist. Afterwards the TV guide row shows it, for example “time +1:00 h”. Check it against a programme whose start time you know for sure, such as the news.
Does Lounjy say the guide only contains programmes outside the coming days? Then your service's guide is out of date, or the shift is far off. Set it back to “None” first.
Keep it updated
A guide only runs a few days ahead. If it isn't updated, it runs empty on its own.
- Update now: choose Update guide in the TV guide row. You'll see the download progress.
- Update automatically: in Settings, under Automatic updates, set the TV guide to Off, Every 12 hours or Every day. Lounjy never updates while something is playing, including the preview in Live TV.
If an update fails, you'll see that under Automatic updates, with the reason. Lounjy tries again later. If your service sends back an empty guide, the previous guide stays.
Loaded your playlist from a file rather than a link? Then the channel list isn't updated automatically. Load the file again when your service changes something.
When it's down to your service
Lounjy only shows what your service supplies:
- “Your provider supplies a channel list, but no programmes in the TV guide.” With Xtream Codes, Lounjy then fetches what's on now and next for each channel. You'll see what's on now and next for each channel, but not a full guide.
- “The guide source supplies a channel list, but no programmes.” Your service's guide is empty right now. Try again later.
- “The programmes in the TV guide don't belong to any of your channels.” The guide is meant for a different channel list. Link the channels yourself with Link TV guide, or ask your service for the right guide.
- Some channels have no guide at all. Not every service has programme information for every channel. Then there's nothing to link.
Still stuck? Send your service the message Lounjy shows. It tells them what went wrong.
